ZGAC STEAM SCREEN - ISDC2017 MOVIE NIGHT
Friday, May 26, 2017, 9:30 PM,
St. Louis Union Station Hotel Grand Ballroom D

World Premiere highlights of Academy of Art University Web Design New Media School motion graphic designers celebrated during the proceedings of the National Space Society's 37th International Space Development Conference (ISDC2017) and showcased during the Zero Gravity Arts Consortium's ZGAC STEAM SCREEN ISDC2017 MOVIE NIGHT, Friday, May 26, 2017, 9:30 PM, St. Louis Union Station Hotel Grand Ballroom.

Designers considered the ISDC2017 conference theme ‘Finding Your Spirit of Exploration and Discovery’ while they learned video editing while researching space science and cutting edge arts in space exploration projects. Students considered the interdisciplinary, intergenerational and multicultural aspects of space exploration while dedicating their fifteen weeks of learning Adobe AfterEffects under the guidance of their university instructor, Frank Pietronigro and ZGAC STEAM SCREEN ISDC2017 MOVIE NIGHT Curator.

These motion graphic designers, working under Frank's art direction, were to acquired audio and video, to tell their stories, from free public domain sources and NASA's Media Library. Portions of the videos are courtesy of NASA and multiple other audio/video public domains where student researched and conceived video stories they wished to share with the international space exploration communities. Credits for all music and video follow each video in the full program.

Using Adobe creative suite technologies for creative expression, these students thought about how the arts, culture and the humanities will continue to unfold alongside space science, engineering, and exploration with stunning interdisciplinary results celebrating both the arts and the sciences. They pondered the benefits of taking culture to space while reflecting upon the ISDC2017 these and in many cases share their sense of hope and excitement for our ongoing sojourn into our universe and life generating system.

As science fiction artists of today, creating magic using motion graphics, they enjoy learning about space exploration. Students knew that they would be expression their visions to a community of leaders, entrepreneurs and space exploration enthusiasts taking the responsibility to speak directly to this audience with the hope of amplifying the importance of taking our lives, our loved ones, our hopes, our arts, our dreams and our cultures to space when we human beings continue these pioneering adventures.

Some students pondered the politics of and access to space while positing the need to ensure that we choose to leave some qualities of human engagement back home on planet Earth. Specific qualities are named in one movie short including: hatred, racism, violence, bigotry, homophobia, and misogyny.

The Zero Gravity Arts Consortium (ZGAC) extends a special thank you to the Academy of Art University students, the National Space Society, Better World Associates, Golden Star Productions, and all of our sponsors for supporting yet another world premiere screening fostered in collaboration with the all of us creating with ZGAC, ZGAC Affiliate Institutions and ZGAC Advisory Committee Members.

ZGAC's educational mission is to help inspire the next generation of space explorers to consider how the arts, humanities and culture will impact space exploration as our species moves off planet. ZGAC advocates for artistic access to space flight technologies and space transportation systems for artronauts, artists and other cultural practitioners.
